Helping Design Minds as Well as Spaces Through Hypnotherapy
Mel Sharpe isn’t just helping people relax—she’s helping them reclaim themselves. As the founder of Melisa Sharpe Hypnotherapy, Mel brings a rare combination of science-backed techniques, creativity, and personal insight into her practice as a Certified Medical-Support Clinical Hypnotherapist and Certified Martha Beck Life Coach. With a background in architecture and a journey shaped by chronic pain and professional burnout, she’s on a mission to help architects, creatives, and high-achievers shift the way they think—and design lives that feel as good as they look.
We sat down with Mel to talk about how she made a bold shift in her career, what success means now, and how she’s empowering others to rewire their subconscious for growth, peace, and purpose.
Q: What do you do and who do you serve?
Mel: I help people transform unproductive and stressful mental habits into positive and empowering mindsets through science-based hypnotherapy and coaching techniques.
Because I used to work in architecture—a high-stress, deadline-driven industry—I understand the unique mental challenges of creative professionals. I now specialize in helping architects, designers, and engineers who are struggling to keep up with a profession that often robs them of the passion they started with.
Through hypnosis (which is not mind control, but rather a deep relaxation and self-guided tool), I guide my clients to connect with their intuition and subconscious. Together, we turn negative thought patterns into empowering ones. I also teach self-hypnosis so clients have a practical, effective tool they can use on their own.
Q: What inspired you to start your business or current career path?
Mel: Several years ago, I was in constant pain. After countless doctors’ visits and no clear diagnosis, I was told I had “chronic pain” and was given the number for a support group. I decided I didn’t want to accept that outcome.
So I took things into my own hands. I worked with a hypnotherapist and a mind-body coach, and discovered my pain was directly tied to my work stress—specifically, the tension I was constantly holding in my muscles. That realization changed everything.
Once I started healing, I realized I had found my calling. I became a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist and a Martha Beck Life Coach so I could help others transform their lives the way I did—by learning to work with their minds, not against them.
Q: What’s next for you or your business?
Mel: My dream is to support more architects, engineers, and creatives in designing lives that reflect their true values. Too often, our idealistic and creative sides get buried under stress, deadlines, and the need to conform.
Through personalized hypnotherapy programs, I help clients overcome imposter syndrome, reduce anxiety, build confidence, pass licensing exams, and tap into their inner guidance systems. Whether they’re battling burnout or simply want more from life, I’m here to help them design their minds—so they can design lives they actually love.

Q: How do you nurture your mental and emotional health while pursuing big goals?
Mel: I practice what I preach. I use self-hypnosis, affirmations, visualizations, meditation, EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), and inner guide work regularly. I also prioritize joy: I travel, spend time with friends and family, and make room for play as much as possible.
Q: What are you currently learning or exploring?
Mel: As a Fellow of the International Board of Hypnotherapy, I have continuing education requirements, which keeps me up to date on the latest in hypnotherapy and coaching. I’m always learning new techniques to make sure my clients get the most effective, science-backed support available.
Q: What’s something about you people might not know—but should?
Mel: I always say the most rebellious act you can take today is to relax. Rest and relaxation—especially through hypnosis—are radical acts of resistance in a system that keeps pushing us to burn out. Relaxation isn’t weakness. It’s power.
